Desmond Tutu Center

Located in Chelsea, this center is comprised of three Gothic Revival buildings from the late 1800s. The buildings face a large, quiet courtyard. Galleries, restaurants, and boutiques are within a short stroll. The Chelsea Market, a food-lover's delight, is four blocks from the center, and the ultra-hip Meatpacking District is about five blocks away.

A complimentary Continental breakfast buffet is served daily in the spectacular Refectory. In addition to complimentary wireless Internet access, the center offers business services and top-notch meeting facilities.

Guests may purchase discounted day passes to the Chelsea Piers, a vast recreational complex one block west.

The Desmond Tutu Center offers 60 handsomely appointed guestrooms. All feature flat-panel LCD TVs with HBO, complimentary wireless Internet access, and custom-designed furniture. Premium mattresses, 300-thread-count cotton linens, and down duvets and pillows encourage restful sleep. Gourmet coffeemakers brew organic, fair-trade coffee. Rooms are heated and cooled by a quiet, energy-efficient geothermal system.

Double-paned windows face the grassy courtyard or the Chelsea neighborhood.

Bathrooms include shower/tub combinations, robes, makeup/shaving mirrors, and Bath & Body Works toiletries.

About half the rooms come with non-working fireplaces. All rooms are non-smoking. Those on the fourth floor and below have high ceilings and crown molding.
